The new video shows Dogan, the leader of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms, standing at the podium as an assailant approaches him with a gun drawn and pointed at his head. Surprisingly, the gunman doesn’t pull the trigger but he does manage to sucker-punch the politician moments before he is tackled onto the stage.
The gunman, has been identified as 25-year-old Oktay Enimehmedov. The cameraman captures Enimehmedov getting kicked and beaten by several people after he was wrestled to the ground.
Some websites speculate that because Enimehmedov failed to shoot the gun, the entire incident is a hoax. However, information released by Bulgaria’s Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, says the opposite.
Tsatarov made a statement to Bulgarian National Radio (BNR) on Monday stating that there may be more charges filed against Enimehmedov once the investigation is complete. according to Sofia News Agency Tsatarov emphasized that the investigation is ongoing and the authorities will eventually reveal the motives of Enimehmedov, as well as the people behind his attempted attack on Dogan.
Other news sources claim that Enimehmedov may not have been acting alone, and it is somewhat confirmed by Tsatarov’s statement to BNR.
Enimehmedov is reportedly an architecture student with a criminal history of drugs, theft and assault.
